Chinese Language

Subject Objectives

Across All Levels

Adhering to the principle of "knowledge as foundation, ability as core," our school is committed to teach various aspects of the Chinese language in a systematic curricular arrangement, hoping to enhance students' reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills, as well as their critical thinking, aesthetic appreciation and self-learning abilities. The approach also aims to foster students’ interest in language learning, cultivate positive learning attitudes and habits, nurture moral values and social responsibility, promote an understanding towards Chinese culture, and develop stronger connection towards the nation and the people inside.

A student-centered approach is adopted for teaching, incorporating real-life elements and diverse, highly interactive classroom activities into lessons for better student engagement and knowledge acquirement. To address learner diversity, our teachers adjust the curriculum, learning tasks and assignments according to students' abilities. Additionally, remedial classes are offered for students who require extra support in Chinese to enhance their motivation and proficiency; while advanced classes are provided for high-achieving students to further boost their ability and ensure continuous progress.

Various activities, such as essay competitions, lectures, Lantern Festival riddles guessing, and Chinese Culture Week, are organized as platforms to help students develop language knowledge and skills and understand Chinese culture better. Teachers periodically showcase students' work within the school and classrooms to recognize outstanding performance and enhance the overall learning atmosphere. To encourage learning through reading and improving writing, thus enhance overall language proficiency, efforts are made to cultivate reading habits among students through morning reading sessions, dedicated reading classes and reading reward programs.
