Forever Our Guide – In Loving Memory of Father Thomas A. Peyton
Father Thomas A. Peyton, former supervisor of Maryknoll Secondary School, passed away peacefully in New York on May 9, 2025, at the age of 93. He devoted 67 years of his life to the Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers, spending the majority of his life embracing and serving the people of Hong Kong.
In 1982, Father Peyton was assigned to the Hong Kong Diocese. The following year, he founded St. Matthew’s Church in Butterfly Estate, Tuen Mun. From 1994 to 2000, he served as the Regional Superior of the Maryknoll Fathers in Hong Kong. He was never afraid to walk into the shadows of society—raising funds for AIDS and leprosy patients in China, regularly visiting prisoners and the homeless, and comforting forgotten souls. In 2012, he was honored with the Hong Kong Humanity Award in recognition of his outstanding contributions to humanitarian work.
From 1995 to 2012, Father Peyton served as the Supervisor of our school. He quietly protected and guided both teachers and students, embodying goodness through humble words and actions. He always prioritized student welfare, stood by the school community through challenges, and offered unwavering support. His compassion and integrity set a powerful example for all.
Thank you, Father Peyton. May you rest in peace.
