Chinese Language Education

 

The school places a strong emphasis on Chinese language education, following the principle of "Knowledge as the Foundation, Abilities as the core." Through systematic curriculum arrangements, students are taught various aspects of the Chinese language to enhance their reading, writing, listening, speaking, critical thinking, aesthetic appreciation, and self-learning abilities. The aim is to cultivate students' interest in language learning, instill positive learning attitudes and habits, nurture moral character, strengthen their sense of responsibility to the community, promote an understanding of Chinese culture, and foster emotional connections to our country.

 

Teaching strategies also prioritize student-centered approaches, incorporating elements of daily life into classes, and engaging students through diverse and highly participatory activities to facilitate learning. Teachers adapt curriculum, learning activities, and assignments based on students' abilities to cater their diverse learning needs. Additional support is provided through Chinese tutoring classes to enhance learning motivation and capabilities for students who may require extra assistance, while advanced Chinese classes are offered to students who excel to further enhance their strengths and continuous progress.

 

Various activities such as essay competitions, talks, Lantern Festival riddles, Chinese language and Chinese cultural experience events are organized to help students construct language knowledge and skills through different avenues and cultivate an understanding of Chinese culture. Teachers periodically showcase students' work within the school and classrooms to recognize outstanding performances and enhance the overall learning atmosphere. Encouraging reading habits through initiatives like morning reading classes, reading sessions, and reading incentive programs that aims to boost students' interest in reading and improve their language skills through a "Read to Write" approach.

 

English Language Education  

 

For English language education, the school believes that having proficient English skills can help students broaden their international perspectives and enriched their lives. The curriculum of our school implements small-group English teaching to provide to tailored courses and learning environment for students at different levels, thereby enhancing the effectiveness of their English learning. Our English teachers collaboratively develop tailor-made learning materials to enhance students' vocabulary, grammar awareness, and reading habits while catering their diverse learning needs.

 

Moreover, the school is committed to creating a conducive English learning environment, fostering students' interest in learning English, and providing training in reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. The school's Native English Teacher (NET), Ryan, has been actively engaging students in language arts lessons centered around games and songs, using interactive learning modes to raise students' interest in learning English.

 

The English teacher team assists students in forming the English Club, which organizes various English activities regularly. Annual activities include speech contests, essay competitions, drama performances, campus TV broadcasts, English treasure hunt, Movie Friday, etc. Teachers also lead students in inter-school Speech Festival competitions and other related events.

 

The school also establishes the "AFS International Cultural Exchange Society" to allow students to interact with foreign youth in Hong Kong, increasing students' opportunities and confidence in using English while also providing chances for students to study abroad and expand their international perspectives, enriching their English learning experiences.
